The Sleeping Giant Genetics Story
Will Malcolm’s career in embryo transfer started in his early college years. He attended Northwest College in Powell, WY, working toward a degree in animal science while competing in livestock judging. He took a job with Cow Country Genetics and was quickly promoted to embryologist. When Will wasn’t in class, he was on the road with Dave Winninger making pregnancies. Will moved on to Bozeman to finish his Bachelor of Science degree at Montana State University. He did well in his advanced classes at MSU, particularly his reproduction classes, and graduated with honors in 1995.
Will got married and found himself back in Bozeman while his wife, Sabrina, finished her degree in accounting. He took a job at Trans Ova Genetics. Once again, he thrived and quickly advanced from embryologist to embryo transfer technician, allowing him to flush and implant embryos.
Will also filled in occasionally alongside Gary Porter of JP Genetics. Gary shared with Will that he was looking to retire in the near future. In 2004 Will purchased JP Genetics and renamed it Sleeping Giant Genetics.
Will had newborn twin girls at home at this time and couldn’t help but think of the flexibility that owning his own business would afford him and his growing family.
Will has enjoyed the challenges of owning and growing Sleeping Giant Genetics. He especially enjoys visiting with clients and brainstorming how to create the best programs for their goals. He has been fortunate to homeschool his children and now they travel and assist Will on the job, exploring their own passions for agriculture.
Jessie Hafer joined Sleeping Giant Genetics as a college intern in 2017. She has brought with her new ideas, youthful energy, and a sunny disposition.
